Seamless transition from Beginner's Course, and more challenging than such

If one has completed the Beginner's Course, this is a seamless transition. By the time one gets to the last section playing most popular guitar songs is well within grasp, albeit with some time/practice. The last module, introduction to various guitar styles, recognizes that by then the student is a basically solid guitar player and most by such time wish to "specialize" in whatever motivated them to take up guitar in the first place, i.e., bluegrass, jazz, blues, pop or whatever.
This course is a lot harder than the Beginner's Course, from the "expected" (barred chords starting with F and B, then extending whole neck of guitar) to improvisation off scales (and played up to 160 bpm), common strumming patterns in popular music (try a 16 note pattern with 4 beats to a bar but stroke emphasis every 3 beats) and core learning (notes on neck, keys in chord, reading sheet music, etc). For me, given notable lack of talent, it's a slog but the improvement in one's ability becomes increasingly obvious and very few songs one hopes to play remain "out of reach". If one wanted to play with a decent college level band as the rhythm, and occasional lead, guitar, they are ready.

fun Americana tale

In 1846 Texas, the Blue Norther killed her father and left Shiloh Braden worried to death about her ranch failing and when it does what will happen to her and her younger brother who she is raising. Shiloh also finds the storm left a young female Indian with a fever stranded in her barn. Without a second thought, she takes the child inside to try to heal her; which she does.

Comanche war chief Shadowhawk comes for his younger sister Moon Song stranded by the storm. He knows he owes her for protecting his sibling. When a neighboring rancher proves perfidious and dangerous, Shadowhawk, paying off his debt of honor, abducts Shiloh and her brother over her protestations to keep them safe. As they fall in love, Shadowhawk knows he cannot keep Shiloh at his side as his wife so returns her to her ranch when he deems it safe.

This is a fun Americana tale due to the strong lead characters who know they have no future together although the well written storyline and the cast will remind sub-genre fans of Cassie Edward's "Savage" romances. Filled with depth, readers will enjoy COMANCHE MOON RISING as a taboo love between the Indian war chief and the white rancher makes for an exciting "C. Edwardian" historical tale.

O'Banyon Fan NOT Disappointed At All

Like the last reader/reviewer, I have collected and read Constance O'Banyon's books since the early 1980s. There is no one who can tell a story like O'Banyon! As a history teacher, I know a lot about the Comanche, who were the fiercest warriors of the American Plains. I thought Ms. O'Banyon did a wonderful job making the Comanche, who historically have a reputation for ruthlessness, sympathetic characters.

COMANCHE MOON RISING has it all--romance that tugs at your heart, wit and humor, and descriptive passages that allow you to imagine you are there with the characters. This book not only has strong main characters, but real-to-life secondary characters, like the heroine's brother and the hero's grandfather.

Like the previous reader/reviewer, I was not ready for the story to end. If you have read Ms. O'Banyon's books, you know that her earlier books were a lot longer, but weren't all the romance books in the 80s and 90s! There seems to be a trend to make the books shorter and shorter, and I have heard that it is high printing costs that have forced the publishers to require less word count from their authors. We shouldn't blame the authors!

I really liked Shadowhawk, the hero, because of his strength and honor, and the difficult decisions he had to make.

In her over 50 books published, I do have my particular favorites, but any O'Banyon book is well worth the reading.

this was a beautiful love story. the story was innocent and read smoothly. it wasnt overly predictable and left some of the adult themes up to the readers imagination. great writing.

Intelligent and Whimsical for Kids and Adults!!

The book is both intelligent and whimsical. One section of the workbook has an exercise on deconstructing your IFF's or intelligent fast failures and the next page has you cutting up a bunch of words and making visual poetry. It really is a good brain and creativity workout! I am using the book in my English classroom and for a middle school after-school program with the aim of making students more comfortable with creative writing. I will also be using this book in workshops with adults and children, too. It's a great resource for improving flexible thinking and a growth mindset.

Really enjoying this book. Filled with innovative tools to access creativity. The author playfully guides you to see things in novel ways and offers many, many interesting methods to crank up the creativity. I'm already benefitting from this book. First performed by students at Northwestern University, where playwright Zimmerman is a professor of performance studies (she is also Manilow Resident Director at the Goodman Theater in Chicago), this play opened at Broadway's Circle on the Square Theater in March 2002. Based on Ovid's transformation myths, the play subtly mixes the ancient stories of pathos and tragedy with contemporary language, humor, and thought, all enacted in and around a large pool of water in the center of the stage. The themes of love, the inevitability of change, and the human ability to adapt to change are timeless, as is amply demonstrated by the sometimes eerie closeness of a vignette to the original lines from Ovid, which still manage to resonate with modern viewers. The volume includes the script, a production history, and photographs from several productions. A valuable addition to either drama/ theater or mythology collections, this play by Zimmerman, who has also adapted and directed The Notebooks of Leonardo da Vinci, The Odyssey, The Arabian Nights, and others, is highly recommended for public, academic, and high school libraries. Metamorphoses opened on Broadway on March 4th, 2002. It has already sold 1,000 copies (as of 03/13/02). Zimmerman is well known in the Chicagoland area, due to her close association with the Lookingglass Theatre and Northwestern University. The book will be sold throughout the country, following the movement of the production. Metamorphoses' literature-into-drama approach gives the book a dual role in the marketplace, both as literature and as a script for performance. This is the first version of the play to appear in printed form.

beauty in the best, most powerful sense

I ordered this title in advance of seeing a revival of the original Zimmerman-directed production at the Arena Stage in Washington, D.C.. Zimmerman is noted for the power of her theatrical environments, and so you'd think you'd *really* have to see it live to understand her pretty undeniable genius. But this script is beautifully done, and the balance between dialogue and stage directions conveys the affect and atmosphere of the live event in a way I wasn't expecting. I would feel very confident teaching this play without my students being able to see a full, live production. Zimmerman is as much a wordsmith as she is a brilliant director. Whether you love theatre, or whether you love Greek mythology, this is a beautiful, emotionally profound rendering of Ovid's stories that manages to find light and contemporary resonance at the same time. If you've never read or seen any of her works before, this is a great place to start. And although the text can't substitute for the live event, the reading experience is surprisingly satisfying. I'm an academic, so I'm supposed to assess value based on historical and conceptual significance as well as aesthetic success--but this is a play that moves me on a deep, human level. When you read or see Zimmerman's work, you think: *this* is what theatre can do. Read this play!

Fast delivery from seller, fantastic play

My college recently put this play on and I was moved to tears no less than 3 times. Reading the play is less moving, but I love to have Zimmerman's wonderful words and insights written down for easy reference. Some of my favorite scenes in this play involve Midas and his daughter, Cupid and Psyche, and Orpheus and Eurydice. And, of course, there is "Let me die at the moment my love dies." This lovely interpretation of some of the best of Greek mythology should be on everyone's bookshelf.

Did this play with my high school drama group. We couldn't have the pool it calls for, but it hardly mattered: the treatment of the myths is often light and charming, the dialogue plays well and there is a wealth of emotional seriousness underlying it all. Highly recommend to any drama group.
