MILTON EZRATI has spent over forty years in the finance sector. Good Overview, but Dated Statistics

While this book is a good overview of the issues, I came away with both positive and negative feelings.

First the positive. It is an easily read summary of globalization issues. It will, if nothing else, raise your awareness of the importance of issues frequently seen in the media these days. If you are looking for a high level introduction, then this is the book for you.

Now the negative. The material seems to have been written around 2008/2009, even though the copyright is 2014. The vast majority of the quoted statistics are from 2008/2009 as indicated by the footnotes in the back of the book. That said, the book is wonderfully footnoted, and the "stale" statistics don't diminish the validity of the basic points.

I felt some topics that have arisen since 2008/2009 were missing, or only mentioned in passing; for example, in the chapter on China, no mention is made of the potential credit bubble (shadow banking system), housing bubble, or pollution issues. Other topics that could have been discussed better or were missing include Abenomics, central bank QE, climatic impacts like water scarcity, and corruption/ease-of-doing-business concerns. Also missing was a discussion of Africa and the future impact of its huge building wave of youthful workers.

Contrary to the more popular (and more prevalent) short-term economic analysis, Thirty Tomorrows tackles the more difficult topic of the long view. The book expands on trends that will significantly impact careers, families, savings and job prospects into future generations. I found Ezrati’s underlying optimism to be refreshing and his advice for where we should look for growth and opportunity practical. Thirty Tomorrows was an easy (doesn’t assume you need to be an economist to understand) and thought-provoking read.

Having read many negative reviews before I started this book, I was pleasantly surprised that I liked it so much. I am glad I did not let them keep me from reading it. Even though the first 40% of the book is dedicated to getting the H/h together, it was interesting and the plot twists and turns for the last 60% kept me reading. I was very glad this h did not keep a juvenileish diary like the one in book 2 did. This h was a fully realized competent adult.
I do have to agree that the sex scenes are overdone and tend to go on and on. Surely they can do something besides "shatter" when they reach climax.
It did take me a minute to realize that these books cover the same time period so during the course of the book, some things that had happened in book 2 had not happened yet in book 3 caught me off guard and for a moment I thought someone had forgotten the plot but time advances and things get caught up.
Whoever proof read this book needs to go back and look at the extraneous commas.
I liked the H/h together and I am glad I read this book. I have already started the last one and am hoping I like it as well.

The series is about four men who have discovered the identity of the English leader of a dangerous cult in India and are returning to England with proof. This book is about Logan Monteith who is almost killed by cultists and ends up washed up on the shores of Linnet Trevission's home. The two quickly -- very, very quickly -- end up in a sexual relationship while Logan has memory loss fire to his injuries. When he regains his memories, he is off to complete his mission.

This book was divided for me between the section before Logan regains his memory and after. The book did not work perfectly for me because of the differences in the tone and action. I liked both parts but they did not work in a cohesive manner. I did really like Linnet who is a unique, strong and independent woman. I wish we could have learned more about her and seen Linnet and Logan working through the issues there. On the positive side, I did love the opening of this book wick is one of my favorites because the reader is immediately put into the action of the story.

I think this book needs to be read by fans of Laurens who have read the Cynster and Bastion Club series because there are many appearances by characters from those books and I think that without that background the numerous character appearances will be bewildering.

Love the main characters, but the mystery was off

I generally like Ms. Laurens' books. She usually writes about two strong adults who need to find common ground, and there is nothing new here in that respect. I also usually enjoy the mystery subplots in her novels.

I did enjoy the characters in this story, very much, except for the villain(s). The villains and the mystery were kind of thinly drawn and a little bit (okay maybe a lot) implausible. So much felt contrived with this series (not just this book, all four books in the series). And there were plot holes in the mystery which usually doesn't happen in this author's books.

Overall if you like Ms. Laurens' books, you'll enjoy this one for the expected relationship and characteristics of the hero and heroine. The mystery is not up to her usual though.

About the Author
Frederick Copleston (1907-1994) grew up in England. He was raised in an Anglican home but converted to Catholicism while a student at Marlborough College. He later became a Jesuit and then pursued a career in academia. He studied and lectured at Heythrop College and wrote an eleven-volume History of Philosophy, which is highly respected. He also spent time teaching at Gregorian University in Rome and, after he retired, lectured at Santa Clara University in California. He was appointed a member of the British Academy in 1970. He is famous for debating Betrand Russell over the existence of God in a 1948 BBC broadcast.
