Highly recommended if you're building php web apps

I normally purchase books based on reviews, but despite only have one (average) review, the preview of this book intrigued me. It appeared to be exactly what I was looking for.

I'm glad I bought it. It was exactly what I was looking for - if you're building php web applications then I recommend this. It covered the main points and gives great pointers where to go to increase your knowledge further on specific areas.

A rip off

He just skims over topics, tossing lines of code here and there. a waste of 38 dollars for sure. He doesn't really provide much useful knowledge about scaling mysql, which is the only reason i bought the book, but its a good primer i guess. It does provide a good view of haproxy and some insight into tuning ubuntu, but all in all i was dissapointed with the book.

About the Author
Dr. Richard Ing is the senior pastor of Light of the World Missions in Hawaii and the Philippines. He holds a Doctor of Ministry degree and is vice president of New Covenant International Seminary and Bible College. Dr. Ing also operates a Bible college, mission house, and vocational training center in the Philippines. He has lectured frequently on spiritual warfare in Fiji, Vanuatu, India, mainland China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Sarawak, Bulgaria, and the Philippines, as well as the US mainland.

Dr. Ing was a civil engineer before graduating from Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco. He recently retired from law practice after forty years. Married for more than forty years, Dr. Ing has four children and resides in Hawaii, where he was born and raised.

A Must Read

I think this is a MUST READ for everyone. It brings to light the workings of Satan and his demons and how God provides us (with the help of His Mighty Angels) to battle these threats to our eternal souls. Yes Dr. Ing does speak quite a bit about the Pacific Rim area but these threats are ever present no matter where you live... I believe he (Dr. Ing) speaks of the areas where He has had "hands on" work with people affected by the demonic powers. This book had brought me a better understanding of some of the "impulse" feelings I have experienced in the past and a better understanding of how to deal with them.

well written, clear presentation

When asked about the best book on analysis, my much older research colleague who went through a traditional, rigorous training in the 60's immediately mentioned the name Natanson. I'm glad I got this book. It's refreshing to read a mathematics book written half a century ago. People then knew how to write and wrote for a clear-minded audience. The presentation is succinct but not abstruse (unlike Hardy's book on Inequalities). I found the exercises at the end of each chapter to be quite difficult.

A book as well constructed as the stunning houses it describes

What a beautiful and informative book! It's a delight to dip in and out of, but reading from cover to cover gives real insight into both the traditions of Japanese architecture and the principles of eco living. The floor plans and cross-sections for each of the crisply described houses allow the reader to see the exquisitely photographed rooms and features as parts of a whole. The end-of-chapter pages on key terms such as engawa and passive qualities then explain the ideas that underpin the projects. Four chapters on exemplary Japanese houses are given relevance to Western readers by the closing chapter which shows their influence on work in Toronto, Norway, Scotland and Prague.

Unsurpassed Quality

I do a lot of glamour photography, and I have a pretty good collection of "inspiration" books. I've put a lot of thought and effort into it. Purchased and returned many; kept the few that are great. This is one of the great ones. It is very oversize and made of high quality material. The photographs are no less than inspiring. Beautiful women, no question about it. And, the best part is that Newton's thoughts on the images and why/how he took them the way he did are included. What a great reference for a photographer, to learn from the master. Very highly recommended. P.S. I have not seen any of the other Newton books. All I know is that they are expensive!

Beautiful book of Beautiful Women

When I ordered this book I had a feeling that it would be good, but I didn't know it would be REALLY GOOD. Sharp pictures that are composed very well with gorgeous models. This book was published in the seventies, but has a very current feeling to it . A must for anyone that collects erotic photo essays.

An excellent book for beginners and intermediate level.

I have had a chance to review sections of this publication in our local library. I found that it is truly a well written book with lots of exercises and helpful hints for the drafting/design discipline. However, I did not find anything on 3D modeling. Perhaps, you can mention a similar publication (same authors?) with the 3D modeling feature, treated with the same details. Thanks for the info. Is this book available in Toronto, Canada? (bookstore please?).

I have used Terence Shumakers books for teaching for the last eight years. This latest one covering AutoCAD 2000 is no exception. It is one of the best books to teach from, excellent subject explanations and easy to follow samples exercises. I do disagree with the order Terence follows, but it is easily overcome and does not reflect on the book its self.

It's better than nothing. But just barely.

While this text covers a great deal of information and is required at community colleges it's as exciting to read as drug warning labels. And you practically need a rossetta stone to drag the pertinent information out of the chapters.

The student CD included requires the student to have AutoCad loaded on their computer to access it. So you need to invest another $800 or so in a seperate computer program in order to access the student disk at home. Otherwise...well, it makes a cool drink coaster.

I only acquired this book because it was required for my class. I hardly even cracked the cover. I used my 2004 copy of "Mastering AutoCad" by George Omura and highly recommend that instead. I only refered to Shumaker's book when encountering a 2005 upgrade (of which there aren't many).

Omura's book has an easy to use index, goes beyond "the basics" and includes a disk with a trial version of ACAD that you can use for at least 30 days. I could look up commands and subjects in the index, breeze through the overview and be functional in minutes.

Shumaker's book is adequate if you have zero ACAD experience, the patience of Job to trudge through the text, no other options or someone is offering to just GIVE it to you. Otherwise and for personal use, go for Omura.

Oh, and don't forget, AutoCad has a HELP menu (F1) if you happen to be stuck for an answer during a test.

Very good story but ...

This is a good story, which I enjoyed. The poor rating is because my overall experience was bad. The story is $0.99 US, but that rises to $2.36 CDN. I wasn't willing to spend that much on a short story, but I decided I would for a novella. I looked at the product description, which put the file size at 399KB with a print length of 72 pages. That seemed to be a novella. However, only 30% of the content was the story for which I paid. The rest was a preview of "First Grave on the Right". A preview is essentially a marketing tool for the publisher that shouldn't increase the price, and it should be made clear how much of the content is previews. I realize most of this is in the control of the publisher, not Amazon or the author, but anyone else buying this story should be aware that they are paying for a 22 (approx.) page story, not a 72 page novella. I would also like to see the table of contents available before purchase so that one could check for previews, etc.

Fun But Very Short Story

I think For I Have Sinned is worth reading, it's set in Charley's world and told from the POV of the recently deceased. A woman finds herself alone with Charley, which makes her dead. The question is how did she end up that way? The answer is satisfying and surprising at once. I don't think For I Have Sinned would stand alone. It is also a very short story - only about a third of the file is the tale itself, the rest is an excerpt from each of the three planned Charley Davidson stories. I'm a big fan of this new series, so I don't regret reading this but it might not satisfy someone expecting more.

Charley From A Different Angle...

While I was reading FOR I HAVE SINNED (A Charley Davidson Story), I forgot that it was a short story; I definitely wanted more! It was that good, and author Darynda Jones was that able to completely pull me into Charley's world in so few words. That is true talent, IMHO. And let us not forget that Charley's loveable butt-kicking, devil may care personality doesn't hurt either!

FOR I HAVE SINNED is told from the perspective of one of Charley's customers. She is a young woman who has died but has yet to move on. She is drawn to the bright light that is Charley Davidson, who just happens to be a private investigator...and the Grim Reaper. Charley then does what she does best: helps the woman remember who she is and how she died, ties up any loose ends, and then sends her into the bright light.

I really enjoyed seeing Charley and her world through someone else's eyes. This lovely little snippet lets us learn more about Charley, who she is, and how important she is to the recently departed. FOR I HAVE SINNED has whetted my appetite even more for book 3, THIRD GRAVE DEAD AHEAD. FOR I HAVE SINNED is placed somewhere between book 2 and book 3, and probably should not be read by a first time reader. But if you love Charley Davidson, then FOR I HAVE SINNED is a definite must!
